Intended Audience: 

  • All full-time faculty who want to submit a strong package for promotion.
  • Tenured faculty seeking promotion to full professor
  • Non-tenure track faculty seeking promotion to senior or principal lecturer.

Panelists for this session include Provost Ellen Granberg and college deans, TBD. 

Sample of typical questions posed to the panelists:

  • Can you give an example of a strategy someone used in making their case for promotion that you thought was particularly successful?
  • Can you share what you think are common mistakes that candidates make in preparing their package?
  • If your time since last promotion has involved both administrative time and teaching/research time – do you have suggestions on packaging our narrative to address needs of promotion guidelines?
  • Are there ever quotas or limits placed on the number of faculty who can be promoted in any given year?

Past participant feedback: More than 90% of survey respondents strongly agreed that attending this session was a valuable use of their time, and that that attending the session helped with identifying strategies for making a compelling case for promotion.  

Registration preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.

This panel discussion is the first of 3 workshops offered as part of the P3 (Cubed). Any interested faculty member can attend any of the three workshops, participation in a P3 Group is not required.  AdvanceRIT, Council for the Representation & Engagement of Women Faculty (CREW), and Faculty Career Development in the ILI facilitate the formation of peer support groups for faculty submitting their packages for promotion to full Professor and Senior or Principal LecturerThese teams are referred to as Promotion Package Prep or “P3” (P cubed) groups.  Learn more here:  Visit the Promotion Package Prep P3 website for more details on this program.
